Artist's Statement
I was born in Vietnam, but as an adoptee to an American family with European roots, I have always had a certain disconnect to my cultural heritage. Growing up I have always found solace and inspiration in the woods surrounding my home, as well as the written stories of Vietnamese American immigrants. Through my art practice I find that I can bridge my two worlds together, both the inspiring beauty of the nature surrounding me and the stories from my distant birth country. Beyond being a force of inspiration for design, nature inspires its own type of comfort and spirituality as an illustrative subject in its grounding presence and slow shifting transformations much akin to that of the human story.
I aim to create lush illustrative stories that draw the viewer into the world being depicted, be it whimsical fairy tales or the complex emotional realities of the human experience. By fusing my traditional watercolor painting and digital painting together, the warmth of the human touch is enhanced by the vast capabilities of the technological world.
